Poem by Jamie Jaques

Roses

A bouquet of roses
For something left undone
A forgiving gesture
Left on her grave in the sun

One hundred soft red petals
With dew in the morning light
A hundred billion regrets
But we're fighting an endless fight

A single rose slips from the bunch
Watch helplessly as the petals come ajar
Wishing for something constant
Still searching near and far.

The wind gusts
The vase tips on its side
Like a whisper in your ear
You give in with a sigh

Come back in a few days
See the stems tinged light brown
The lifeless flowers are a reminder
That you're slowly breaking down

They begin to disintegrate
Your world is shattering too
If only they could stay perfect
You'd feel forgiven and you know you'd make it through

But life isn't stable and
All flowers in the end will die
It will break you or make you
But there's no giving up, you have to try

And when the last rose withers away
Look to God and pray
Have whole hearted faith in Him
That she's in a better place...
