Thought of the

A man is never taller
than when he kneels to help a child.

I ran into a stranger as
he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please"
was my reply.
He said, "Please excuse
me too;
I wasn't watching for
you."
We were very polite,
this stranger and I.
We went on our way and
we said goodbye.
But at home a different
story is told,
How we treat our loved
ones, young and old.
Later that day, cooking
the evening meal,
My son stood beside me
very still.
When I turned, I nearly
knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I
said with a frown.
He walked away, his
little heart broken.
I didn't realize how
harshly I'd spoken.
While I lay awake in
bed,
God's still small voice
came to me and said,
"While dealing with a
stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love,
you seem to abuse.
Go and look on the
kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers
there by the door.
Those are the flowers he
brought for you.
He picked them himself:
pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly
not to spoil the
surprise,
you never saw the tears
that filled his little
eyes."
By this time, I felt
very small,
And now my tears began
to fall.
I quietly went and knelt
by his bed;
"Wake up, little one,
wake up," I said.
"Are these the flowers
you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em,
out by the tree.
I picked 'em because
they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em,
especially the blue."
I said, "Son, I'm very
sorry for the way I
acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled
at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom,
that's okay.
I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you
too,
and I do like the
flowers, especially the
blue."
FAMILY
Are you aware that if we
died tomorrow, the
company
that we are working for
could easily replace us
in a matter of days.
But the family we left
behind will feel the
loss
for the rest of their
lives.
And come to think of it,
we pour ourselves more
into work than into our
own family,
an unwise investment
indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the
story?
Do you know what the
word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND
(M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

Week of 6/6/2006:
"To render ourselves
insensible to pain we
must forfeit also the
possibilities of
happiness."
--Sir John Lubbock
"A caterpillar knows
instinctively that it
must spin a cocoon. When
finished it will use the
protection it has made
to turn itself into a
beautiful butterfly.
When the time is right,
the butterfly will break
through the cocoon and
stretch its wings to
meet the world.
We sometimes protect
ourselves by withdrawing
into a cocoon of our
own. We stop talking to
others and find
ourselves growing lonely
and longing for our
friends. Perhaps it was
some pain that made us
retreat, but the pain of
loneliness is greater.
When we have the courage
to break out of our
cocoon, knowing and
accepting the fact that
we will experience both
pain and happiness, we
will change. We will
become, for that moment,
something new and
beautiful like the
butterfly.
What fearful thing do
I have the courage to
face today?"

Week of 1/16/2006:
"I have always
taught my kids to give away a free
smile everyday. One day my little
girl started saying "smile" out the
van window. She gave and got a smile
in return. Her brother took up the
game and started saying "smile" to
passers by also. He, too, gave and
got a smile. They began to challenge
each other to see who could make
more people smile. Of course this
gave me a smile. It’s now a regular
travel game. In the end everyone who
smiles wins."

Week of 1/9/2006:
"People are often
unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of
selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false
friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat
you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could
destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be
jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget
tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may
never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in
the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway."
